Photoelectrochemical study of electrochemically formed semiconducting yttrium hydride (YH3−x)

Abstract The first photoelectrochemical study of semiconducting YH 3− x films formed by etching bulk Y metal in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 solution is reported. The formation of semiconducting hydride having an indirect optical band gap, E g opt , of about 2.35 eV is confirmed by in situ photocurrent spectroscopy. The photoelectrochemical behaviour of such a phase was investigated both in alkaline and in acidic solutions. The flat band potential was estimated to be U fb =−1.25 V/NHE, independent of pH.

When boiled in acidic or basic solution, diendo-3-aroylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acids (1 and la) isomerize to exo-3-aroylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-endo-2-carboxylic acids (2 and 2a). Similar endo→exo and even exo → endo isomerization of the aroyl group occurred when the Diels-Alder product containing a mixture of 3-exo-p-toluoylbicyclo[2.2.1 ]hept-5-ene-2-endo-carboxylic acid (4) and 3-endo-p-toluoylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-exo-carboxylic acid (5) was reacted with bifunctional reagents: o-aminothiophenol, 3-amino-1-propanol, 1,4-diaminobutane or diexo-3-hydroxymethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-amine. Solution equilibrium studies on Cu2+–L1–L2 ternary systems have been performed by pH-potentiometry, UV–Vis spectrophotometry and EPR methods (L1 corresponds to polyamines such as ethylenediamine (en), diethylenetriamine (dien), or N,N,N′,N′,N″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (Me5dien) and L2 represents 1-aminoethylphosphonic acid (α-alaninephosphonic acid)). The obtained results suggest the formation of heteroligand complexes with [Cu(L1)(α-Ala(P))] stoichiometry in all studied systems. Additionally, in the system with en the [Cu(en)(α-Ala(P))H−1]− species is formed in basic solution. A new method for the rapid and accurate measurement of haemoglobin has been developed as an alternative to the conventional cyanhaemiglobin method. This method is based on the conversion of all haeme, haemoglobin, and haemiglobin species into a stable end product by an alkaline solution of a non-ionic detergent ('AHD reagent'). The reaction product, designated as alkaline haematin D-575, is extremely stable and shows a characteristic absorption peak at 575 nm. New descent rules for solving the linear semi-infinite programming problem

The algorithm described in this paper approaches the optimal solution of a continuous semi-infinite linear programming problem through a sequence of basic feasible solutions. The descent rules that we present for the improvement step are quite different when one deals with non-degenerate or degenerate extreme points. For the non-degenerate case we use a simplex-type approach, and for the other case a search direction scheme is applied. Some numerical examples illustrating the method are given.
FIA-fluorimetric determination of thiamine.

A flow injection-fluorimetric determination of thiamine is reported. The procedure is based on the oxidation of the analyte with potassium hexacyanoferrate(III) immobilized on an anionic exchange resin; the fluorescence is monitored in aqueous basic solution. Concentrations of the vitamin of 0.1-4 ppm have been determined; the relative standard deviation was 1.8%. The injection rate was 28 samples/h. The influence of other substances and the determination of the drug in a pharmaceutical formulation are also reported.
